SURGE

SURGE follows the journey of humanity as a plant. The growth, the downfall, the death, and hope for rebuilding. The piece speaks to each audience member as a rose that came from concrete who have the tools to spread the seeds of knowledge about rebuilding our communities free from stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. In recent years, the UK has seen a rise of cultural appropriation, police brutality, racism and consequent hate crimes. I would like to help audiences begin to speak about and be challenged by race identity and the stereotypes those classed as ‘Other’ within our British society which causes police brutality, prejudice, discrimination. The piece will include spoken word and poetry throughout and the sounds of real-life scenarios of police brutality from the media, as well as choreographic movement. It questions whether the audience would stand by and watch if I was the person struggling to be freed from the pain and destruction of police brutality.

Too Close To the Bone

Through considering new ways of working, Elisha attempts to shift her choreographic methodology and approach to form a solo work. The solo both intimates and travels through several experiences. In moments she defines as a 'wake-up call' she comes to rely on the audience to see her through. Some or all of these wake up calls may also be shared by or experienced by the audience also. Watch as the space changes and Elisha reveals more than just choreographic struggle.

‘A thought-provoking and captivating performance, such a beautiful performer! The message and thought process were really clear, with such confidence in delivery. I was so impressed by it.’ - Charlotte Constable: Marketing & Communications Assistant with One Dance.

An adaption of George Orwell's 1984 and the event of Rosa Parks sitting on the bus - directed by Channie B

Given a cast of 5, I was tasked with creating an adaption of two texts/ artworks/ events to create one 15-20 minute piece, I decided to create a movement piece about the event of Rosa Parks sitting on the bus, merged with the regimented and hostile world of George Orwell's 1984. I wanted to investigate what happens when people in society don't stick to the regimented rules of society and break away from society's expectations.
